Climate change won't wait – why should we?
Register for the International 6th Scientific and Expert Conference, which will be held in Crikvenica from October 2 to 5, 2025, and contribute to the preservation of the Adriatic Sea!
The conference was launched in 2020 with the aim of preserving biodiversity and strengthening the connection between terrestrial and marine habitats within the unique Natura 2000 area along the northwestern coast of the island of Krk. Special attention was given to the status of the population of the strictly protected bivalve species – the noble pen shell (Pinna nobilis).
To raise public awareness about the impact of climate change on the Adriatic Sea, and as part of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021–2030), a conference was organized in 2022 on the theme Climate Change and the Conservation of the Adriatic Sea’s Marine Ecosystems. This crucial topic remains at the heart of discussions to this day.
Climate change is already affecting our Adriatic, but together we can protect its future.

Climate change demands urgent action. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, we work on concrete solutions to protect the sea and coastline.
So far, the conference has hosted over 150 lectures, presented more than 50 posters, and welcomed over 250 participants.
The conference consists of plenary lectures, oral presentations, and poster sessions in the fields of natural, biotechnical, technical, social, and humanities sciences, covering the following topics:
• Climate change and its impact on the Adriatic Sea, the rate of climate change • The impact of climate change on the vulnerability of the mariculture and fisheries sectors, possible adaptation measures, and the overexploitation of marine resources • Measures and best practices in addressing climate change, potential adaptations and practical solutions, blue economy
Marine pollution, including noise and biological contamination by invasive alien species • Mechanical destruction of habitats and benthic communities • Marine ecosystems and climate change in Croatian legislation • Adaptation strategies and measures for the conservation of Adriatic Sea habitats and species • New technologies in marine research related to climate change, climate modeling
• The impact of climate change on marine systems in school curricula • Ocean literacy, citizen science, and the synergy between science and art • Social ecology and societal mechanisms of climate change, the synergy between ecology and economy, environmental protection, and defense security
With the aim of raising awareness about the impact of climate change and human activities on the Adriatic Sea, we are organizing the international 6th scientific-expert conference in collaboration with relevant institutions. The conference takes place within the framework of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development 2021–2030.
